Getting rid of a fridge in Zurich: your options

Free return to a shop

Shops that sell these appliances and official collection points take old ones back free of charge. You paid the recycling fee when you bought it. But you have to get the appliance there yourself.

City collection

The city also collects appliances for a fee, but only from the kerb. An appliance weighing 60 kilos or more has to be carried down by you.

KRAM WEG.

We collect the appliance from wherever it is, including the chest freezer in the basement. You pay for the carrying and transport. The recycling itself is already covered by the recycling fee.

Why fridges need specialist recycling

Fridges and freezers contain refrigerants and insulating foam that have to be extracted and treated in a controlled way. That's why they don't belong with bulky waste but in specialised recycling plants.

In Switzerland this recycling is funded by the advance recycling fee you paid when you bought the appliance. We take your appliance to an official collection point.

  • Collected from the kitchen, basement or attic
  • Heavy chest freezers too
  • Any floor included, with or without a lift
  • Proper recycling via official collection points
