Getting rid of a washing machine in Zurich: your options

Free return to a shop

Shops that sell these appliances and official collection points take old ones back free of charge. You paid the recycling fee when you bought it. But you have to get the appliance there yourself.

With your new machine

If you have a new machine delivered, you can often hand over the old one at the same time, usually for a fee.

City collection

The city also collects appliances for a fee, but only from the kerb. An appliance weighing 60 kilos or more has to be carried down by you.

We collect the machine even if you're not buying a new one, from your flat, basement or laundry room. You pay for the carrying and transport. The recycling is already covered by the recycling fee.

What happens to your washing machine?

Washing machines contain a lot of metal, which is recovered during recycling. We take them to an official collection point for electrical appliances.

In Switzerland, the recycling is funded by the advance recycling fee you paid when you bought the machine.

What does washing machine disposal cost in Zurich?

A washing machine costs CHF 115, a top loader CHF 75 and a tumble dryer CHF 85, each including collection from your flat and transport to recycling. There is a minimum charge of CHF 90 per pickup.

Do I have to disconnect the washing machine myself?

Please disconnect it from power and water before we come and drain the remaining water. If you can't do that yourself, mention it in your request.

Can't I return the washing machine for free?

Yes, you can. Shops that sell washing machines and official collection points take old appliances back free of charge, but you have to take it there yourself. With us, you pay for carrying it out and taking it there.

Do you also collect tumble dryers and dishwashers?

Yes. A tumble dryer costs CHF 85, a dishwasher from CHF 55. We'll take fridges in the same visit too.

How soon can you come?

That depends on how busy we are. With Express we can collect as early as the next working day, depending on availability (+CHF 30).

If you're flexible, choose a Flex date: we pick the day within 7 days and you save 10%.
